Swan & Box Mines

Part 11

I'm not sure what the hooks in the ceiling were used for.

A massive collection of files, and one ruler.

Ben with some 'shears', used for lifting blocks of stone.

Ben and Matthew holding a miner's lamp. It must have been so hard to work in those dark conditions.

A mine cart railway junction piece. There's one the same on the wall of the Quarryman's Arms pub, just outside the mine.

It's Ben and his bucket!

Finding our way out.

The water tank that would have filed the steam train 'Thunderer'.

The final climb before the exit.

The exit. For once I didn't make a single mistake in navigating - phew!

It was dark when we got outside, so it was a good job we had headlamps.

It was an excellent trip, and all three of the boys were superb. I'd pushed them quite hard, from big climbs, to crawls through tiny cracks, and they coped with it all brilliantly. They worked really well together as a team, and not once did they wind each other up. I can't wait to take them underground again.
